The Prince's Shadow

Morning came to the Suryavanshi palace in a wash of pale rose and melted gold.

In the long, stone-paved inner courtyard, life moved with the rhythmic, accustomed ease of a kingdom at peace. Palace maidservants carried wide brass trays piled with sweet-smelling vetiver roots and damp marigold petals, their bangles chiming softly against the quiet morning air. Near the arched stables, the head groom laughed with two young guards as they polished the silver bridles of the royal parade horses.
